EDM, THC, and Sick Shade

Lately I’ve been more into doing things than writing about them. The breakneck pace I’ve been keeping since June has finally come to a halt and I can focus my energies inward rather than getting ready for the next big trip/event/guest.

I am grateful for all my experiences and wouldn’t miss seeing my guests for the world, but it’s nice to narrow my focus onto my personal interests and rhythms.

I have plenty to catch up on but what I feel like writing about is the show Loony and I went to with Gofer the other night. It was another one of Gofer’s EDM fests which I always have fun at.

I text myself notes as thoughts go through my head while I trip on visuals and beats, much to Loony’s irritation. You’ll see them in the blue text bubbles. We all enjoy dancing and Trap music and it is so easy to catch a show at The Fox.

You know what I don’t like? Dubstep.

The first DJ on was 100% dubstep.

I’ve been to a dubstep concert before, back when Brynn Route was pole dancing for Borgor.

With the exception of being able to watch the beautiful Brynn dance, I can’t say I enjoyed the evening.

No offense to Borgor aficionados, but his music is super obnoxious. Also …

Yeah, I hadn’t eaten an edible which I must say makes almost any music tolerable. Even this.

At least I was able to wax philosophical about dubstep with Cory because I realized (be prepared to be wowed by my pithy, stoned insight) that …

That would be Transformers, or the lack thereof, which makes the trap formula work for me and dubstep so abhorrent.

The opening DJ was loving life because his set went on and on and onnnn. Of course we arrived promptly at 9:30 so we heard the whole thing. I had to get going early, though. Had I waited until 11 it would have never happened. My disco nap would have worn off and I’d be snuggled in bed with Chief.

I had a rather overwhelming day of spirit crushing errands and the icing on the cake was this bitch woman in the Target parking lot that just had to slow her roll and inform me out her window that I’m a bad parker. She just had to throw some shade at me.

I was loading the trunk and about to leave and all I could say was, “I’m leaving if that makes you feel better.”

But god, she had the most pinched, snottiest attitude. Like, why would you take a second out of your day to criticize a total stranger? I mean, she’s right, I am the world’s shittiest parker but there are bigger things to get your panties in a twist about.

I figured that going out would be good for me. It was unlikely that it would put me in a worse mood and going out with Loony and Cory is always fun.

Plus, the bass at The Fox is so sick that I could feel the vibration in my lady parts and lower back, both appreciated the attention.

So I walk the dogs a lot and Chief being a puppy I like to have all the things I need on me at all times: poop bags, leash, treats, clicker, and phone. I thought I was being pretty clever by having a leather worker in Russia (via Etsy) make me some custom bags to put on a vintage belt.

Granted, they are boxy and stick out but they are hella useful. Anyway, I was at the school for drop-off on Halloween to see the kids do the Thriller dance – a school tradition – and I’m just out of bed in my sweats and a hoodie because it was cold. And I was wearing my belt bag.

She came up behind me and was, “Oh my god, Vivienne! Is this a new look? I thought to myself who is that person wearing those boxes and sweats and a hoody? You look dorky enough to be someone who would hang out with me!”

Varsity level shade

Right, I wasn’t looking my best and she was just razzing me (you should hear what she has to say about her own fashion sense) but it was a burn most severe and she didn’t even realize it.

Girl, I ain’t mad at you. Respect.

Unless the DJ has Brynn Route on stage or really fly visuals, they aren’t much to look at. Gravitrax had a hula hooper but that gets old after two hours.

Do you know what doesn’t get old? DJs over emoting on stage, like a knob twiddling version of this awesome marching band keyboardist.

Do you know what else is awesome? Going to a 15 and older show and watching girls get thrown out for underage drinking.

Dude, this girl got hauled out for drinking and she clawed at the door yelling, “Pleeease! I need to let my friends know what happened to me! I didn’t do anything wrong! You have to believe meeeeeee!”

It was amazing.

I also took advantage of the free entertainment that are Finger Tutters in rave gloves.

All you have to do is tap a tutter on the shoulder and position yourself in front of them to enjoy the show. Loony and I saw this for the first time at the Borgor show and were mystified. Why would you let someone wiggle their fingers in your face for 10 minutes and then give them a grateful hug?

T to the H to the C, baby.

I tapped. I watched. I hugged. Try it, you’ll like it.

Finally the headliner was on. DJ Minnesota.

Yep, Minnesota.

I respect Midwesterners but I looove Minnesota Bass.

The melodies were lovely, the beat was thick. The visuals were trippy and fun.

His music featured rap vocal elements that harkened back to old Massive Attack and Kruder and Dorfmeister. In other words, I was in the zone.

My favorite lyric of the evening …

Screen Shot 2017-11-07 at 2.03.29 PM.png

We walked home after the show (and did not drag home roadkill) and intercepted some drunkards harassing my chickens. They had the coop door open and were messing with the ladies.

Me: Hey, what are you doing?

Drunkards: We are saying hi to the chickens.

Me: They are sleeping …

Me: So close the door …

Me: And go away …

It was a perfect evening. Loony and I had a great time, I loved the music and dancing, Gofer had that endearing goofy smile on his face all night and it was an easy, low-stress evening that left me feeling a lot better than I did going into it.

Because it wouldn’t be a proper post without requisite cuteness …

Oh, and I got this funny text from Itchy. I gave him a hard time for getting a low grade in Social Studies (turned out to be a glitch) and he texted to inform me that his grades are indeed good.

I can throw a little shade, too.

Parenthood is great. So is being 52.

  1. Viv you are into music that is so far beyond my comprehension. Thanks for including clips or I would have no fucking idea. And 52 so far really sucks.

    • It’s not music I would listen to under any circumstances except for going out dancing, and I probably wouldn’t know much about it if it weren’t for Cory. It’s fun stuff as long as you are in the right headspace (wink)

    • To be fair, there is a bar but yes, I party with teenagers, or at least next to them. I’m going to a show on Friday that I’m pretty stoked about.
